F1 POLECAT INTERVIEW:
Maks Angelard
Junior Champion Prototype cup Germany 2025
The roar of a Le Mans Prototype isn’t just a noise - its precision, endurance and nerve. Few drivers understand that balance better than Maks. He’s one of the rising talents in Europe’s Prototype Cup, having won Junior Champion and Vice-Champion Prototype Cup Germany in the 2025 season. Maks and his LMP3 soar round the track bringing home podiums for MuekeMotorsport.
On the 27th of January I got the chance to talk preparation, pressure, and speed. And this is what Maks had to say…
Syd: Hey Maks! Firstly a huge congratulations on your recent victories, I mean its obvious to say you dominated most weekends which led to you becoming Vice Champion if the Prototype Cup Germany 2025. This year fans are waiting with baited breath to see what you will achieve, can you give us any insight of what can be expected?
Maks: You can expect something bigger and greater than Prototype Cup Germany but as of now you’ll have to wait until the official announcement.
Syd: That’s very exciting! We’ll have to keep up with your socials then. You’ve raced at legendary tracks like Spa-Fancochamps and Nurburgring - how do you approach learning a new circuit, and which one would you say is your favourite so far?
Maks: I do a lot of simulator to get to know the track and of course physical training, I would say my favourite track and the one I felt most confident on is Hockenheim.
Syd: What a beautiful circuit as well. As a young driver competing internationally, how do you handle the pressure of race weekends? Do you have any pre-race rituals, routines? Also I’d love to hear about any hobbies you turn to in your downtime to stay relaxed or grounded?
Maks: I am used to big pressure from karting where I raced in the biggest and most prestigious racing series in the world my usual pre-race routine is that I like to get quiet and avoid any distractions while listening to music or talking with my co-driver or race engineer, I like to go snowboarding when I can, which is usually once a year but I also really enjoy going to the gym and doing simulator practice.
Syd: What were any early lessons from karting and sim racing that you have carried into your career as a hypercar driver?
Maks: Most important one is not to give up, and not to get my head around bad things that happened which I didn’t have any influence on for example engine failure.
Syd: I think that’s a lesson we could all learn from. And you started karting at quite a young age, what originally sparked your love for motorsport and do you remember the first time you knew you wanted to race professionally?
Maks: My dad took me to a rental kart track which I really liked a lot and I love the movie Cars which also gave me the feeling that I wanted to race and of course I love cars generally. First time when I felt I wanted to race professionally was when I started racing in World Series.
Syd: You’ve spoken about your dad online previously, saying he once told you that an autograph written properly in long form (rather than just initials or a squiggle) is a sign of respect to fans, which I think is a really compelling way to express gratitude and very beautifully said. How much does fan support and appreciation drive you personally - especially when you're in the heat of competition?
Maks: Fan support is what makes it all possible. This sport is incredibly expensive, and every follow or interaction directly helps me secure the budget to stay on track. Beyond the business side, sharing this passion with people who love speed as much as I do is what makes the journey truly special.
Syd: Definitely, its great to see your appreciation of the fans as much as they appreciate you. Now, your sister, Julia, also races. She’s currently in the Richard Mille young talent academy. I know 100% if it were my brother and me, there would be an endless rivalry on track. Would you say there’s a balance between that supportive family connection and the natural competitiveness?
Maks: Yeah, although she is racing in karting so I don’t feel the rivalry but she always wants to be faster than me, but we support each other on every step of our career.
Syd: Of course - that’s lovely. Okay one final, ultimate question, If you had to race anything other than cars (lets say anything at all like a horse, a jetski or even a shopping cart!) what are you choosing and why?
Maks: Tough question I would say motorbikes because they are also very nice and fast.
Syd: Strong choice! Some brilliant answers there, Maks, Thank you!
Well, some really fun answers! Thank you Maks for speaking with me it was truly awesome to hear about your career.
